At the Rome headquarters of the European Parliament, the First International Day of Mutual Understanding highlighted the importance of interreligious and intercultural dialogue, promoting understanding and exchange of values between different cultures.
On 4th October, 2023, a historic event took place at the Sala delle Bandiere in the Rome headquarters of the European Parliament: the "First International Day of Mutual Understanding and Shared Values between Cultures and Religions". The event was promoted by the Karol Wojtyla, International Association, led by Professor Rosanna Cerbo, with the aim of promoting interreligious and intercultural dialogue.
The meeting was attended by numerous prominent figures from the socio-cultural and religious landscape, who expressed their willingness to build a common future based on the sharing of values and mutual understanding. Among the participants, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain, H.E. Dr. Naser Al Belooshi, who emphasized the importance of interreligious dialogue and expressed his support for the creation of a UNESCO chair dedicated to these issues. The Senator, Maurizio Gasparri reiterated the importance of intercultural exchange as a fertile ground for the common growth of peoples linked by the Abrahamic roots.
A particularly significant moment was the greeting from the three youth institutions representing the Abrahamic religions: "Union of Italian Jewish Youth" (UGEI), "Italian Catholic University Federation" (FUCI), and "Youth of the Italian Islamic Confederation" (Giovani della CII). This event symbolized unity in differences, a fundamental value for building an inclusive and pluralistic society.
During the event, the participants organized two round tables to open the discussion on crucial topics such as religious freedom and cultural identity in Europe, as well as the realities and prospects of Artificial Intelligence in culture and education.
The event concluded with the signing by the teachers of participating universities and institutions, of the Constitutive Document of the International Academic Network "Schola dei popoli di Abramo". This represents an important step towards the creation of an international university network aimed at promoting dialogue among diverse cultures revolving around the Abrahamic religions.
This day marks the beginning of a path towards cohesion that aims to overcome current challenges in terms of mutual understanding and integration.This commitment testifies to the importance of dialogue and mutual knowledge as fundamental tools for building a shared future.
